Fiji is an archipelago of more than 300 coral fringed islands, which makes it a haven for snorkeling and diving. The people are a blend of Melanesian, Polynesian and Micronesian with Indian, Chinese and European influences and among some of the friendliest you will come across in your travels. This makes it a popular destination for honeymooners and family holidays. The climate is mild and you can enjoy it year round, although the best time to go is during the dry season from May to October. This "Fijian Winter" is cooler, less humid and a there is a much lower risk of tropical cyclones which generally occur between November to April.

Suva, the capital city and main business and commercial hub is located on the main island of Viti Levu. International flights land at Nadi and Lautoka is the main sea port. Many cruise ships include Fiji on their South Pacific Island cruises. Travel between the islands by seaplane, local commercial airines such as Air Fiji, or take an inexpensive ferry ride with the locals. Fiji is also a base for exploring other Pacific Islands such as Samoa, New Zealand, Vanuatu or Tonga with connections flying Air Pacific.

Most mainland resorts are found on the Coral Coast which runs along the south of the main island. The best beaches and resorts are found on the outer islands such as the Mamanuca or Yasawa Island groups. You can choose to stay in airconditioned resort luxury or a thatched bure on the beach, in resorts ranging from budget backpackers to 5 star luxury. The recent development of Port Denarau Marina includes the largest shopping centre and restaurant complex in the Nadi area.

The interior of the main islands offer the opportunity to visit remote villages, trek through extinct volcanic craters and rainforest reserves and view giant waterfalls. Adventure seekers can go jet-boating and river rafting, or take a leisurely day cruise to the outer islands.
